The story

After experiencing her grandmother's clothing production in Lima, Peru, as a child in the 1980s, Marisa Fuentes Prado worked with artists, took photographs, painted and increasingly had the desire to design clothes herself. By this time, she had already been given the nickname Maqu by family and friends. This was followed by a degree in fashion design, jobs in the fashion industry and, in 2013, joining the team of her favourite designer Henrik Vibskov in Copenhagen.

After productions for the Fashion Weeks in Copenhagen and Paris, Marisa continued to follow design in the city that fascinated her: Berlin. Here she can let inspirations from different parts of the world flow together into a lasting design in an open dynamic environment. It is in Berlin that Maqu's first collection has been created since 2016. Maqu Green Project company was founded. Art, design, practicality flow together with social and environmental sustainability. Meanwhile, 100% of our cotton is organically grown and GOTS certified.

We only work with producers and tailors we know personally and, in addition to our quality standards, we make sure that working conditions and pay guarantee a comparable standard of living to that achievable in Germany with the minimum wage. For this, we have looked at the relationship between salary, cost of living, working hours, time pressure and personal satisfaction.

November 2017 opened the Maqu Store & Studio in Berlin Friedrichshain.
