After Marisa Fuentes Prado witnessed her grandmother's clothing production in Lima, Peru as a child in the 1980s, she worked with artists, took photographs, painted and increasingly wanted to design clothes herself. By this time, she had already been given the nickname Maqu by family and friends. This was followed by a degree in fashion design, jobs in the fashion industry and, in 2013, joining the team of her favorite designer Henrik Vibskov in Copenhagen.
After productions for the Fashion Weeks in Copenhagen and Paris, Marisa continued to pursue design in the city that fascinated her: Berlin. Here she can combine inspiration from different parts of the world in an open, dynamic environment to create a lasting design. The first Maqu collections have been created in Berlin since 2016. Maqu Green Projectwas founded in 2016.Art, design and practicality flow together with social and ecological sustainability. Today, 100% of our cotton is organically grown and GOTS certified.
We work exclusively with producers and tailors that we know personally and, in addition to our quality standards, we ensure that working conditions and pay guarantee a standard of living comparable to that achievable in Germany with the minimum wage. We have therefore looked at the relationship between salary, cost of living, working hours, time pressure and personal satisfaction.
November 2017 saw the opening of the Maqu Store & Studio in Berlin Friedrichshain.
