The Shiringa Shoes

The shiringa or rubber tree grows wild in the Amazon rainforest. Its milky sap, called latex, is extracted by hand in our case and turned into rubber sheets. Many indigenous communities extract latex in this traditional sustainable way without depleting the population.

The rainforest and the Shiringa have long been destroyed by man for latex production. Now the rubber tree is once again the hope of the forest and the people.
